3D CAD Software for Modeling and Simulation

Inventor® Professional mechanical design and 3D CAD software includes: freeform, direct, and parametric modeling options; design automation tools; and advanced simulation and visualization tools.

Interoperability enhancements- Revit AnyCAD

New improvements mean the Revit project can be accessed from a local file or Changes during the design process are inevitable. When the Revit model changes, you’ll need to update the Inventor model to suit so now any changes to the Revit project will also update inside the Inventor assembly for you.

Dark Theme Preview

Inventor 2021 includes a preview of the new Dark theme. This update touches all aspects of the user interface, including color scheme, icons, display color or background, manipulators, and ground plane.

Command UI and Productivity Enhancements

Property panels continue to expand to more areas of Inventor. You can now use the streamlined property panel workflow in Bend, Coil, Combine, Copy Object, Decal, Delete Face, Split, Thicken/Offset, and all frame generator commands.

Performance and Productivity Improvements

Experience quicker times for component selections and filtering, visibility changes and saved views and improvements in inserting sub assemblies.

CAD import export support additions

This release now supports export of software interpretable semantic Product Manufacturing Information (PMI).Support is added for Parasolid version 32 import as well as updates for Solid Edge, SolidWorks, and Unigraphics formats.

Read only mode

Inventor Read-only Mode allows you to access Inventor part (.ipt), assembly (.iam), drawing (.idw, dwg), and presentation (.ipn) files for viewing in the Inventor user interface without consuming a license.

AnyCAD Inventor
AnyCAD for Fusion 360

AnyCAD for Fusion 360, which was released in 2018.2 as a Tech Preview, is now fully released as a feature for Inventor and Fusion 360 subscribers.

DESIGN ENHANCEMENTS

 Unwrap Improvements

The Unwrap command is further enhanced this release by choosing to align the results with the Model, or the XY, XZ, YZ planes. You can also select multiple planar holes to be Rigid.

Part level enhancements

New improvements have been made for sheet metal, multi-body parts and 3D annotations, reducing time and effort in your workflow.

Extrude taper option
Extrude taper and Loop & Region Detection

When using the taper option with adjacent regions, the operation merges the faces to create a single, unified result.
Identifying and selecting loops and regions is significantly enhanced.

Solid sweep
Solid Sweep

Sweep a Tool body Along a Path. You can use solid sweep to create complex shapes, simulate toolpaths, or to design timing screws. The tool body is not required to be a revolved or cylindrical body.

Relationships enhancement
Other enhancements

These include relationships enhancement, content center and migration enhancements.

FRAME GENERATOR

 New  Category filters

New category filters in the properties panel enables you to streamline your selection, and Presets help you save your most frequently used frame settings to use again later. 

Naming Improvements

A new option lets you set the file name of the component to be the same as the display name in the browser, enabling you more detailed control of your naming schemes .

End Cap
Insert End Cap Command

Use the new Insert End Cap command to close structural frame members. You can set the position, thickness, specify the profile shape, other properties.

Miter property panel

The Miter command is now a property panel. In the new panel, you do not need to select an option to miter multiple members at the same time.

In canvas manipulators
In-canvas manipulators

You can now interact with in-canvas manipulators when you insert or change a frame member.

DRAWING ENHANCEMENTS

Ilogic Improvements

This released has improved the ability for iLogic to add dimensions, notes, and balloons from labeled features, with added support to change styles to suit your customer or to batch edit styles to aid CAD standard compliance.

Sheet format flat pattern support

Sheet formats now support flat patterns for sheet metal parts and Parts List for assemblies, all automatically populated. View layouts saved as sheet formats now retain view settings such as edge display, and we have included a new ‘Fit views to sheet’ option to automatically scale your views.

Measure and Rotated Dimensions commands

By popular request, the Measure command has returned in the drawing environment enabling you to take measurements from the drawing without creating additional annotations.The new ‘Rotated’ option in the Dimension command enables you to align a dimension perpendicular to a selected edge.

Display Style and Automated centerlines

This release adapts the line style with more options that provide finer control of the appearance of BOM Reference parts, and adds new button for the automated centerline command. Inventor to detect diameter dimensions for side views or section views when you select parallel geometry.

TUBE AND PIPE

Auto Route improvements

The new Apply button when you use the Auto-Route option lets you stay in the command to create the next route. Handy when needing to create more than one route in an assembly.

File Naming additions

Improvements to file naming for Tube and Pipe designs have been made with this release to add to continuity of the parts and assemblies.

Notes:

  1. Autodesk® Inventor® is optimized to take advantage of the SSE2 extended instruction sets supported on Pentium 4, AMD Athlon 64, and AMD Opteron processors. Inventor 2020 will not install on computers that do not support SSE2. Several utilities are available on the Internet that report CPUID including supported instructions sets.
  2. Autodesk recommends settings which allow Microsoft Windows to manage virtual memory as needed. There should always be at least twice as much free hard disk space as system memory (RAM).
